How To Overcome Sin?

How To Overcome Sin?

Romans 8:5-6:

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

James 1:14-15:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

All sin is conceived in your thoughts. Therefore, the question is not whether a fleshly/sinful thought will attack your mind, because it will. But the question is what does one do when thoughts of adultery, fornication, gluttony, anger, hatred, jealousy, selfishness, envy etc do come. An uncontrolled mind is receptive to ungodly thought, and will easily entertain and feed a thought that eventually develops into lust. The truth is: “ you can’t commit a sin without first having thought or meditated on it.” The arena for our spiritual warfare is therefore in our minds!

2 Corinthians 10:4-5:

4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

If your imaginations and thoughts are lined up with Christ you will win the spiritual battle, if not, you’ve lost it, (2 Cor 10:4-5).This is why it is so important to keep your mind closed to ungodliness and fleshly/ungodly entertainment.
Reading, hearing and seeing gossip, lies, self-exaltation, adultery,violence, revenge, hate, bitterness, unforgiveness, other worldviews, ideas, thoughts, or watching half naked girls, only feeds and entertains the fleshly mind, which eventually, when desire has conceived, gives birth to sin: and sin, when it is full-grown, results in death (James 1:14-15).

If our minds are lined up with the mind of Christ (2 Cor 10:5), we can not commit a sin of the heart, wilfully sin (Matt 5:28), because our thoughts and our heart are strongly connected, Jeremiah 18:12:

12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
