Abba Father

Abba Father

Abba Father 175 243 Aly-Sam Botros

The term “Abba Father” is used three times in the Bible Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15, and Galatians 4:6. Abba (ab-bah’) is an Armenian word meaning father in a way of relationship, while the word father it’s more used in a functional way. Both Romans 8:15 and Galatians 4:6 say that it is our new nature, our born again spirit that is crying Abba Father. The first time this term is used in the Bible is in Mark 14:36, where Jesus says

“Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

If we sum up these three Bible verses Mark 14:36, Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6, we understand that the part of Jesus, that cried out Abba Father was His Spirit,

Galatians 4:6
”And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

The book of Romans confirms this by clearly saying that Jesus was the Son of God in His Spirit.

Romans 1:3-4
“concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who was born of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.”

And now, God has given you the right to say just as Jesus, Abba Father, My Father (Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:6). Because you as a born again Christian have the same nature as the Son of God in your spirit. You were dead through your transgressions (Rom 6:23a), but by faith in Christ you became a new creation. This new creation is in Christ, He was the one who resurrected in you.

Galatians 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me,

Colossians 1:27
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

2 Peter 1:4
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

1 Corinthians 6:17
But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

Galatians 4:6
”And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

And, (Romans 8:15, Romans 8:29, Ephesians 4:24, John 3:6). Also, you are the Son of God in your spirit as Jesus.

What does the Bible talk about when it says that Jesus was the Son of God? Was God the Father married and had an intimate relationship and then Jesus was born?

John 19:7
“ The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”

The clam Jesus did to be the Son of God was blasphemy according to the jews (Matt. 26: 63-66). They understood exactly what Jesus tried to communicate – His equality with God.

John 5:18
“Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.”

And He was sentenced to death for blasphemy accordingly (Leviticus 24:16).

When the Bible says that we are Sons of God, it mean that we have the same divine nature that God has (2 Peter 1:4, Galatians 2:20, 4:6,  Colossians 1:27, 1 Corinthians 6:17, Ephesians 4:24, Romans 8:29) just as Jesus was divine in His Spirit. With the same righteousness and holiness, power, faith, love, mind, wisdom, ect as God Himself. (Eph 4:24, Joh 14:12, John 13:34, Gal 2:19-20, 1 Cor.2:16b, 1 Cor. 1:30, Gal 5:22).

All believers have a human spirit but of divine nature. There is only one God, and you are not Him, and neither are you a little mini God. You are a human being with a spirit that is born again in the the image of Christ. This is of great importence to understand the new identity in Christ – as a child of God.

Explenation for this in more details will be in an article named “How to walk in the spirit”, (not published yet).

Hi brother Risto, long time ago!
I guess we are not God in our spirit as you may think. There is only one God, and we are not Him !!!! But when you are born again by faith in Jesus you get a new nature Which is of divine origen this new nature (the born agin experience) happened in you spirit.
